The tradition of awarding scholarships by the Rotary Club of Ellicottville continued at this year’s ECS graduation. As in the past, these were awarded on the basis of those who demonstrated strong leadership, the ability to work hard and achieve their goals and the willingness to volunteer and help others through many kinds of community service.
At the graduation ceremony, Rotarian Judy Brown presented scholarships to Katie Krotz, Katrina DeChane and Jacob Ballard.
Katie, Valedictorian, will be attending Cornell University for Animal Sciences. She participated in several extracurricular activities, held down a job and volunteered for many community service projects. The latest was on Earth Day in April helping to clean up the downtown area with several other students and Rotarians.
Katrina DeChane, Salutatorian, will be attending Jamestown Business College for Accounting. Katrina was involved in several school activities, held down a job and volunteered for school, church and community activities.
This year the Rotary Club established a new scholarship entitled Service Above Self. The first winner was Jacob Ballard who will be attending SUNY Brockport majoring in Physical Therapy. Over the past several years, Jacob consistently volunteered to help with many Rotary and community service projects.
We congratulate these scholarship winners and all the graduates of ECS this past year.
